About RVP
Whaketane Flower
Welcome to the Rear View Photography blog. I am a 33 year old American (by way of Virginia) living in New Zealand for the last 11 years.
I have been taking photos since I could hold a camera – starting with an old 110, then 35mm film, pinholes and digitals. I currently own a Canon 400D and am anxiously awaiting the next generation of Olympus Underwaters to be released sometime next year.
For me photography is an extension to my eyes – I think it is in seeing something that others miss, bringing things to light and capturing those moments that may never be repeated. It is also very much about the little things – I really enjoy macro work and finding a way to show everyday objects from an interesting perspective..
I have started this blog to showcase some of my most recent work and give you a chance to give some feedback or book a service if you are in the Auckland/Waikato area. With a new picture a day, updates on shoots and specials on services – check back often for updates!

Your photos says it all… that full moon was simply stunning…

My landscapes are mostly from UK and India.

Thanks! Feel free to critique if you feel so inclined…I will be keeping up with your stuff as well….
Even just posting a photograph every day is a pretty ambitious pace, but to maintain such a level of quality you have to really enjoy what you do, one of the secrets of life. I am, from southwest Virginia by way of lots of places, looking forward to future posts.
Thanks! You’re right – I do love it – photography went from a hobby – to a passion – to an obsession – I am rarely without at least my Nokia phone to take pics with and am looking forward to the new range of Olympus underwater Tough MJU-series point and shoots that are rumored to be coming out this year – A weatherproof camera will be a great addition to my arsenal. I am the same about Va – I have moved around a bit much in a “J” from New York to Texas with quite a few stops between – with more years in Va than any other state – so it was 5 locations – but it is the closest to calling home. Then I moved to New Zealand and here I am!
I’ve enjoyed browsing your photos. I particularly liked the view from the rail of the ocean scene – the frame effect was striking.
Thanks! Glad you liked it. I shot a similar style one at the wharf the other day with my phone – there is just something about seeing something like that in the context of the window that makes it all the more special.
Lisa, I just found your blog today. You know how it is, a link to a link to yet another link. Wonderful work. I read on one of the posts you were considering moving to Nikon?! What will you do with your Canon glass?!
I’ll visit often!

I am considering going to a Nikon D90 – to incorporate still and video in one – I have read great things about it – much like the 400D when I got it – Canon and Nikon I think have always been neck in neck but the advantage of higher ISO abilities for low light shooting and not having to lug two sets of camera gear around amongst other things would be great. So I am selling my Canon and all assorted bits on TradeMe (NZ’s answer to eBay). The auction is going well for watchers – but we’ll see if it sells.
